Jonathan Rea worryingly for his rivals picked up where he left off with a cool and collected double race win, Chaz Davies started the season strong pushing Johnny in race one finishing 2nd and doing the same in race 2 till an ambitious move going in Honda hairpin saw him tuck the front and go down he remounted to eventually finish 10th,Tom Sykes started both races strong but struggled to keep the pace making a mistake under pressure from Jonathan Rea in race two he finished the with a 5th in race one and a 6th in race two.
Michael Van Der Mark in only his second season of WSBK finished the weekend with a 2nd and 3rd place while his Moto GP veteran team mate Nicky Hayden Adjusted to WSBK action with a 9th and 4th place, That 4th could have easily been 3rd had it not been for David Giugliano with an out of this world move into the last corner.
New to the Championship the Milwaukee backed Shaun Muir team had a steady
weekend to begin with as they got used to their new BMW machines, Josh Brookes new to the series and new to the BMW finished with a 10th in race one and 9th in race two, Karel Abraham rounded out the Shaun Muir outfit’s weekend with a 13th in race one and 11th in race two.
Another new team Pata Yamaha run by former Crescent Suzuki boss Paul Denning had a mixed weekend with Sylvain Guintoli finishing the weekend with a 6th in race one and a 5th in race two, unfortunately Alex Lowes didn’t fare as well retiring from race one and finishing race two in 14th.
The opening round of the 2016 season definitely did not disappoint with competitive racing throughout the field hopefully this continues throughout the year.
