WSBK RD3 Review

Race 1:

Tom Sykes started race 1 from pole after a dominant performance in Superpole. The two 12042733_340381492752925_4307179246205018084_nYamahas completed the front row with Sylvain Guintoli in 2nd and Alex Lowes in 3rd. Chaz Davies,Johnny Rea and Davide Giugliano completed the 2nd row. Nicky Hayden had a disappointing superpole after a strong practice finishing 10th, His teammate Michael Van der Mark crashed out but managed to get a time in before hand that put him 11th.

 

 

1962701_10153342378192120_1430029356294498960_nInto the first corner Sykes lead the way from Guintoli and Rea Van Der Mrk and Hayden both made fantastic starts from their lowly grid positions. Rea Davies Giugliano and VDM all started tripping each other up allowing Sykes and Guintoli to open up a gap on the 2nd lap.Davies passed Rea with a smooth move into turn 14 with the clear trach Davies started to really track down Guintoli and Sykes.

 

 

Van Der Mark fell with 15 laps to go while Davies passed Guintoli going into what the Eurosport commentators have come to call the reverse corkscrew he then passed Sykes at the end of the back straight. Rea started to pick up his pace and began to reel in the leaders Davies contiued to open up his lead over Sykes with an impressive pace that no one seemed to be able to live with. Gunitoli seemed to be holding Rea up who got passed him into turn 11 and set about catching his team mate.

12 laps to go and Davies had a commanding lead over Sykes who was being hunted down by his team mate Rea. Giugliano gets passed Guintoli into turn one as the former world champion started to fall back into the pack after a bright start.
9 laps to go and Rea had really closed doen his teammate and was right on his back wheel Davies was well clear at this stage Rea passed Sykes on the back straight and held the bike tight not allowing Sykes a way back through.

Gunitoli fell back to 7th unfortunately for him and the Yamaha team he couldnt convert his front row start to a good race finish. Fores mangaed to get the best of Hayden and went about racing the works Ducati of Giugliano for 4th place he managed to pass him into turn 11.

12472297_1238583546169204_545476489786596761_nWith 3 laps to go Davies had opened his lead up to 6 seconds over Rea and Sykes. The race at this stage was pretty much follow the leader for the top 5 places. On the last lap the race order was pretty much as you were from the previous 5 laps with Davies at the front Rea in 2nd,Sykes 3rd Forres 4th and Giugliano 5th.

 

A commanding race from Davies who really seems to love Aragon. Rea with another podium 100 percent podium record so far this season with Sykes in 3rd. Fores with a brilliant ride for the Privateer Ducati team in 4th and Guigliano 5th.

Chaz Davies lead the way in morning warm up by 0.404 secs over Tom Sykes. Xavi Fores
impressed again with 3rd Alex Lowes and Johnny Rea completed the top 5. Sykes again lead into turn 1 off the start from Rea and Davies as the Yamahas got swamped off the start. Van Der Mark and Hayden again made good starts from their low grid positions.

Davies made a pass on Rea at turn 12 to move into second place on the 1st lap.The front 3 broke away on the 1st lap from the chasing group being lead by Giugliano. On lap 2 Davies moved right onto the back wheel of Sykes and moved past him going through the last corner.

Fores having another good race moved into 6th just behind Van Der Mark who was chasing down Giugliano. Fores over took Van Der Mark on lap 15 and set about chasing down Giugliano as he had done in race 1.

Davies started to open up his advantage on lap 14 setting laps half a second faster than the two Kawasakis behind him. Rea started to close down his team mate again as he done yesterday both however had no answer for the pace of Davies.

With 11 laps to go Davies had a commanding lead leaving the two Kawasakis to batlle it out for 2nd and 3rd. Fores and VDM were fighting for 4th and 5th while Giugliano had a bike issue and fell down to 8th.

8 laps to go and Rea moved passed Sykes at the end of the back straight Sykes wit
h a slight mistake out braking himelf into the last corner.Torres started to pressure VDM for 5th place while Fores moved away from them in 4th.

 

Torres made a pass on VDM going into turn one with 5 laps to go. Davies meanwhile had extended his lead out to 5 secs over Rea who in turn was fending off his team mate Sykes. The rest of the field had pretty much settled and were circutlating . Rea made a mistake into turn one allowing Sykes to move through and take control of 2nd place.
Going onto the last lap Davies lead from Sykes and then Rea the rest of the field hadnt changed in a couple of laps. Davies wins the race from Sykes and Rea, A commanding performance from Davies at his favourite curcuit while Rea kept up his 100 percent podium record for this season. Fores again finished 4th impressive from the privateer Ducati team with Torres coming in 5th.

 

Rea continues to lead the Championship by 26 points and after a tough weekend for him to come away with a 2nd an 3rd place im sure he wont be to displeased.
The WSBK paddock now moves onto Assen when Rea has been so dominat going back to his Honda days.
