BSB Preview Round 6 Thruxton

Round 6 of the British Superbike season takes us to the super fast Thruxton, Thruxton was originally created in 1940 as an RAF base that was used by both the British and American air forces. The Circuit itself has been in use since 1950 hosting Motorbike races since its opening and car racing since 1952.
Due to restrictions the circuit can only host race events 12 days of the year 3 of those are used by the British Superbike championship with the rest being taken up by the different car racing series in the UK. The track is highly regarded as the fastest circuit in the UK with its fast flowing corners it is also one of the longest tracks in the UK at 2.4 miles long.

This round last year saw Josh Brookes dominate taking Pole 2 wins and the lap record it was also the round where he took the championship lead away from Shane Byrne this round was very much the start of the Australian’s march towards the British title last year The only blot on the weekend was in his celebration burnout when he crashed the bike.

Last time out at Snetterton Shane Byrne stamped his authority on the championship with an impressive set of results for the Ducati man after an off track moment in race one he carved his way through the field and took 3rd place setting the fastest lap in the process. In race 2 Dan Linfoot was the only man to stay with him and even then it looked like he was on the edge of what he could do to stay with Byrne. The Hondas of O’Halloran and Linfoot both had good weekends with the pair fighting for the win in race 1 and Linfoot finishing 2nd in race 2.

The JG Speedfit team had a less than successful weekend with Leon Haslam Struggling with tyre life on his bike unable to stop Byrne taking the lead in the championship, His team mate was unfortunate and was taken off in race 1 after a collision with Glenn Irwin he finished 8th in race 2, James Ellison again struggled with his Kawasaki he failed to finish in both races. The Tyco BMW team who were really struggling coming into this round started off rough with Christian Iddon who was suffering with an injured finger being caught up in a first lap incident in race 1 dropping him down the field meaning he could only finish 21st,Michael Laverty was caught up in the incident with Peter Hickman and Glenn Irwin and failed to finish in race 1, Race 2 was much better for the team with Iddon finishing 6th place and Laverty finishing 3rd they will be hoping to carry this form onto this weekend.

Thruxton always provides fast racing and Im hoping as im sure all fans are that we see alot of the top riders fighting at the top for the win I believe Bryne has found the sweet spot on his Ducati and is high in confidence at the moment so will be hard to beat but fingers crossed the others can get sorted and give us a close competitive race.
