Lap of Donington from last season:
Last season Donington Park was host to the first round of the showdown, Shane Byrne took the win in race one ahead of Leon Haslam and Jason O’Halloran, He also took the win in race two from Dan Linfoot and Christian Iddon this was the start of Byrne’s dominance that lead him to the title win 2016.
Most of the teams have completed alot of laps in pre season with the majority spending alot of the winter testing in Spain allowing new riders to get settled in their teams as well as allowing teams to get new machines such as the new Honda Fireblade and new Suzuki GSXR run in prepared for the opening round. Unfortunately the official test at Donington last week was curtailed by bad weather meaning the teams did not get alot of track time.
Shane Byrne has not had the best of pre seasons but he will still beat the man to beat staying with the PBM Ducati team he knows what it takes to win the title and wont be panicking, Along with the returning Josh Brookes and Sylvain Guintoli as well as Leon Haslam who also remained on the same machinery as last season will be the guys to beat for the title.
As is always the way in BSB anyone of around ten riders if not more will be capable of winning in this class and it should lead to some exciting racing every weekend, One rider in particular I am looking forward to seeing this weekend is Davide Giugliano the former Ducati WSBK rider joins the TYCO BMW squad and is one of my dark horses to win the title this season if he can find a bit of consistency that alluded him in his time in WSBK.
